Day Care Provider? Make Sure You Background Check Your Employees

You love working with kids, so you’ve decided to become a day care provider.  Not a big one; in fact, you sometimes refer to it as a “long term babysitting” service.  You’re eager to get started and can’t wait to fulfill your dream right from your home.


It’s good to have entrepreneurs like you who are willing and able to steer the growth of the next generation.  However, in order to see your plan through, you will want to make sure that everyone — including you — who comes in contact with the children you serve has been thoroughly vetted through a background check.

Why bother, you ask, especially if you have no plans to grow beyond your current capacity?  Quite honestly, background checks performed on anyone who helps you while the kids are around, from your spouse to the gal who cleans your house, will assure parents that you have all your rubber duckies in a row.  You can use clean background checks as a way to woo customers; after all, you have proof that your employees’ records are clear.

Background checks can also be a benefit if you encounter any problems down the road.  They show you fulfilled your responsibility when hiring and that you didn’t simply pull someone off the street to assist you.  It’s a measure of protection and a show of prudence.  And in the end, the youngsters in your care will be the beneficiaries of your pragmatism and professionalism.
